My name is Rose, and I was born and raised on the Southeast coast. The ocean isn’t a vacation destination for me — it’s home. I can walk to the water from my front door. The sound of the tide is what I fall asleep to. The salt air is just the air.
Growing up here meant growing up close to the water in every sense. I remember heading shrimp in the backyard — fresh off the boat, bagged and stacked in the freezer before the afternoon was over. My grandmother would make her way to the fish house, pick out the day’s catch, and wrap it herself in newspaper and freezer tape before large freezer bags were even a thing. Those recipes, those traditions, that way of living close to the land and the sea — that’s the world I grew up in, and it’s the world I never wanted to leave.
If you grew up near this coast, or found your way here and never left, you know exactly what I mean. There’s something about the Southeast shore — the light, the pace, the way the whole world slows down when you’re standing at the edge of it — that gets into your blood and stays there.
Home & Shore started as a creative outlet — a place to write about the coast I love, share what I know, and tell stories from right here where I live. It has grown into something I pour my whole heart into.
This is where I share honest guides on coastal home living — what actually works when your home is near the ocean, which products survive a Southeast summer, how to take care of a home that the salt air and humidity are constantly working against. It’s where I share stories from this particular stretch of coast, the people, the traditions, and the rhythm of life that I’ve known my whole life.
